As the notion of ‘net-zero’ is becoming increasingly mainstream, this paper outlines important fallacies and misinformation around the concept. Notably, there is a need to recognise where ‘net-zero’ is used as a ruse for continuing ‘business as usual’ whilst creating the impression that substantial action for reducing emissions is being undertaken. As the act of ‘offsetting’ does not actually reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere, a more radical ambition of achieving ‘Real Zero’ is necessary.
