“Nature-based solutions” (NbS) is a wiThe use of NbS by predominantly corporate actors in the fossil fuel industry allows these actors to continue ‘business as usual’ through ‘carbon off-setting’. This has resulted in ‘carbon colonialism’- the search for forest, land and soil to claim as a ‘sink’ for pollution occurring elsewhere- as elite interest for natural spaces has piqued. The implications of this, particularly for indigenous and marginalised communities, are severely concerning as these individuals struggle to defend their rights and access to land and livelihoods.
