As NbS becomes increasingly popular as a strategy for mitigating climate change, this edition of the Forest Cover magazine presents a comprehensive account of the fallacies and limitations of NbS. Particularly the use of NbS by highly polluting actors to justify environmental negligence and continue polluting, at high social and environmental costs, is addressed. A wide range of alternative approaches are proposed which engage local actors and rely on sustainable management practices. These solutions bring together a range of social and environmental issues surrounding forest management such as gender rights, indigenous rights, conservation, biodiversity and adoption of sustainable, traditional practices.
